Reading Guide

New here? Here's how to navigate the journey.

Start Here

If you are reading the Ramayana for the first time, start from Episode 1.

The episodes are designed to be read in sequence - each builds on the previous one, following the structure of the Valmiki Ramayana.

Start from Episode 1 - Bala Kanda

The Structure

The Ramayana is divided into 7 Kandas (books):

Bala Kanda - The Childhood Rama’s birth, his training under Vishwamitra, and his first heroic acts. Where it all begins.

Ayodhya Kanda - The Kingdom The coronation that never was, and the exile that changed everything.

Aranya Kanda - The Forest Life in exile, Sita’s abduction, and the test of dharma.

Kishkindha Kanda - The Allies Rama meets Hanuman and builds his army from the most unexpected place.

Sundara Kanda - The Beautiful Hanuman’s journey to Lanka and the turning point of the entire story.

Yuddha Kanda - The War The battle for dharma. The war that had to be fought.

Uttara Kanda - The Aftermath What happens after “happily ever after.” The hardest questions.

How Long Is This Series?

The Valmiki Ramayana contains roughly 500 sargas (chapters). This is a multi-year project. I publish one sarga at a time, as time and devotion allow.

You can follow along as it unfolds, or return later and binge-read.

Can I Jump Around?

You can - but for first-time readers, I don’t recommend it.

The Ramayana is a journey. Skipping ahead robs you of the emotional buildup that makes the later moments land with full force.
